A bout of fresh air came in the form of films such as Shwas and Dombivli Fast,which caught the attention of the audience. The youths then kept away from Marathi films and so did the thinking audience. Earlier,Pune,the main hub for Marathi cinema,had only Prabhat screening Marathi films. Multiplexes had started screening offbeat films along with commercial films. When we started making films,it was a kind of new wave. It was the time for Laximikant Berde and Ashok Saraf kind of films. However,then the atmosphere was not tuned to such kind of films. When I started assisting Sumitra Bhave,Jabber Patel,Nachiket and Jayu Patwardhan,they were all good filmmakers. UMESH KULKARNI (UK): It is the beginning of the best time for Marathi cinema.
